René Hamel is the Senior Manager Forensic Technology with TD Financial Group. His career extends over 20 years of civil and criminal investigations including white-collar crimes and computer forensic examinations with the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP). Prior to joining TD Financial Group, René developed and established the Computer Forensics capability for KPMG Ireland and prior to that, he set up a similar group for Gowlings/Inkster Group LLP and for the Royal Bank of Canada’s national computer investigation services group.

René has completed extensive training with the RCMP in Regina, Saskatchewan, the Police Science program in Trois-Rivières and computer programming and system analysis program at the Herzing Institute in Montréal. He then completed the CBIS (Computer Based Information Systems) program through the University of Victoria and received training from the FBI academy in Quantico, Virginia for proper incident response for network investigations and hacking. René is an A+ Certified Computer Service Professional, a CISSP (Certified Information System Security Professional), a CISA (Certified Information Systems Auditor), PMP (Project Management Professional) and an EnCe (Encase certified
examiner). Rene is also a member of the Society for the Policing of Cyberspace, the High-Tech Crime Network and the RCMP Veterans Association.
